One of the problems associated with working from home is extreme boredom. Most of my friends and family are at work during the day and going out on my own inevitably results in the purchasing of products I don't need which isn't agreeing with my bank account.
Luckily there are always things to look forward to... various upcoming events, the thoughts of which I can use to distract myself from the fact that I have very little to do right now.
At the moment, both of my upcoming events invlove gifts.
In early Feburary I have the Reed Gift Fair. As an online retailer, the exhibition brings together hundreds of wholesale suppliers in the "gift" industry so that I may peruse their products and possibly purchase some for my store.
The other event due in mid February is my birthday, which naturally is both exciting and terrifying. While I greatly dislike the notion of getting older, one cannot deny any oppertunity that involves recieving gifts.
Choosing gifts - especially for people like me - is entirely excruciating. The eternal search for the perfect gift is often near impossible, so I thought I would share some of my favourite gift ideas for people who are difficult to shop for.

- The magazine subscription. This year I have requested two of them. You're looking at spending anywhere from about $40 to $120 depending on the kind of publication and how many issues come out a year. Why it's a good idea: There are magazines published to suit almost anyone of any interest so you never have to feel as though it's an impersonal gift - and the best part is they're really the gift that gives all year long.
- The movie tickets. Again, you have options ranging from about $30 to $80 depending on whether you choose a regular or luxury cinema experience. Why it's a good idea: It's fair to say most people enjoy going to the movies. The gift recipient is also very likely to bring you along which means you get to enjoy the gift too!
- The spa experience. This gift is usually a bit more expensive, running at between $70 to $300 depending on the length of time the experience goes for. Why it's a good idea: Most people rarely treat themselves to something as personally indulging as a spa experience so this gift is usually well appreciated and enjoyed.
- The humble gift voucher. They can usually be purchased in any denomination so already these are suitable for people of every budget. Why it's a good idea: Many people feel the gift voucher is impersonal, but to me, gift vouchers are by far the best gift to receive because (impersonal as they may seem) when you get one you're actually getting two gifts - 1. the experience of getting to go shopping, and 2. whatever product it is that you choose to use the voucher on. I love going shopping and the only thing better than going shopping is going shopping with someone else's money.
- Just ask them what they want. It's unlikely your gift recipient will suggest something out of your budget. Why it's a good idea: They are guarenteed to love whatever it is!
Gift giving is not a seasonal affair. But while I wait out my gift-related events, at least I have a lot of fun ideas to think about.
